The Modern Applique Workbook

By Jenifer Dick

Published by Stashbooks, an imprint of C&T publishing, Inc. 2013

Modern applique, with an excellent explanation of freezer paper method and zig-zag machine stitching.  The instructions are excellent, the photos plentiful.  As in many modern style quilts there is lots of negative space and much use of solid color fabrics.  She also includes finishing techniques complementary to the modern styling.

In keeping with the simplicity of modern styling, the names of the quilts are simple too; i.e  birds, trees, kisses, fall.  There is a whole new idea for flying geese in her quilt titled geese.

As the name makes obvious, this is modern in style, and focuses on applique.  But, you must take a look at the machine quilting in her samples.  It is really exciting!

There is a very good variety in 11 quilted projects including wall and lap quilts, table toppers and pillows.

I encourage you to try a modern quilt and to also try your hand (or should I say machine?) at Modern Applique.  If you try any of the patterns in this book, let us know how it turns out and what you think of this book.

5 stars on Amazon; and No corrections listed in the C&T Stashbooks website.
